Job Requirements

The University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) is seeking an experienced and compassionate  Senior Nurse Practitioner II  to join our growing Palliative Care team at our Downtown and Midtown campuses. This is an exciting opportunity to practice within a nationally recognized academic medical center while providing meaningful, patient-centered care to individuals with serious and complex illness.

As a Senior NP II, you will function as a highly autonomous advanced practice provider and key member of an interdisciplinary team focused on symptom management, goals-of-care discussions, advance care planning, and improving quality of life for patients and families across the continuum of care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive inpatient palliative care consultations
  • Conduct symptom management evaluations and develop treatment plans
  • Lead goals-of-care discussions and advance care planning conversations
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, social work, chaplaincy, pharmacy, and consulting teams
  • Support patients and families through complex medical decision-making
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and care coordination
  • Contribute to quality improvement and evidence-based practice initiatives
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation within Epic EMR

Qualifications

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
  • Active Maryland Nurse Practitioner license in good standing
  • National board certification required
  • DEA, CDS, and NPI required
  • BLS and ACLS certification required
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of advanced practice experience preferred
  • Palliative Care or Hospice experience strongly preferred
  • Palliative Care certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
