About the Palliative Medicine team:

Our Palliative Medicine Division is combined with Geriatric Medicine in the Department of Medicine. Faculty members at Hennepin Healthcare are eligible for academic rank at the University of Minnesota. 

Our providers work closely with learners throughout the hospital. Physicians are expected to take an active role in teaching fellows, residents, and medical students through direct patient care, formal and informal lectures, and grand rounds presentations to the Department of Medicine.

This position has flexibility to be hired at .5 FTE – 1.0 FTE dependent on the candidate  and is primarily Monday-Friday daytime hours. Weekend coverage is split between physicians with an average of 8-9 weekends per year. No overnights/call. Holiday coverage split by physicians in-person or by phone. Currently our work is mostly inpatient.  Our vision is to further expand into the outpatient setting. In this way, we will be able to meet our patients earlier in their illness trajectory. We are looking for providers who are interested in helping the team grow in this space. Additionally, we are willing to explore opportunities for candidates who might have interest in practicing both Palliative Medicine and another area of medical care within our organization.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Board Certified/Eligible in Hospice and Palliative Medicine
• Must possess a current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Minnesota (or be eligible for licensure)

• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team
• Ability and desire to work with and educate learners of all levels (medical students, residents, fellows)
• Ability to work in both inpatient and outpatient setting
