Position Description
The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center is seeking a full-time MD or DO pediatric complex care physician to fill an immediate opening on our growing inpatient consult service. The complex care team provides inpatient consultations and assists with care coordination for children with medical complexity. The team cares for patients with a variety of diagnoses including tracheostomy and ventilator dependence, prematurity, cerebral palsy, short bowel syndrome and various genetic conditions. The ideal candidate will preferably have experience in complex care and enjoy working with a multidisciplinary team, as well as with families of children with medical complexity. Candidates should be board certified or eligible in Pediatrics or Internal Medicine - Pediatrics.
The Pediatric Complex Care team currently consists of two physicians, an APRN, two respiratory therapists, two dedicated complex care case managers, an RN coordinator, and access to plentiful Child Life, music therapy, chaplaincy, and psychology support services. Complex Care works closely with the Palliative Medicine team, which includes four full-time physicians, two full-time APRNs, and a social worker/bereavement coordinator.
Responsibilities will also include teaching and mentoring medical students and residents, with opportunities to contribute to curriculum development and educational innovation. The division is committed to supporting career development through mentorship, protected academic time, and institutional resources. Leadership positions may be available for candidates with demonstrated interest and experience in clinical program development, education, or research.
Clinical practice occurs at Oklahoma Children’s OU Health, the only comprehensive academic tertiary and quaternary health care facility dedicated to the care of children in the state of Oklahoma. The hospital is an independent, not-for-profit, 278-bed referral center with approximately 9,500 admissions per year and busy PICU, CVICU, and NICU floors.
